· In 1587, Xu Xiake was born in a famous and wealthy family in Jiangyin (present-day Jiangyin, Jiangsu), and his ancestors were all people that are educated. His father, Xu Youmian, was not yearning to fight for power, he like to travel, enjoy the landscape. Influenced by the culture of the cultivating and reading family, Xu Xiake was eager to learn at an early age, read a lot of books,and was especially fond of the Earth Classics Tuzhi.
Changing The Path
Fast forward to 1601, when Xu Xiake was fifteen years old, he didn't pass the Boy Scout Examination.When the father saw that his son had no intention of making a name for himself, he was no longer forcing him, so he encouraged him to read a lot of books and be a learned person. Xu Xiake treats reading very seriously, and everything he has read can be remembered by others when asked. But the family collection of books gradually could not meet his needs, he collected books everywhere that he had never seen, as long as he saw good books, even if he did not bring money, he would to take off his clothes to change books.
Exploring The New World
On 1605, Xu Xiake was nineteen years old and his father died. Xu Xiake was born with a dream of wanted to go out to explore the mysteries of the famous mountains and rivers, and wanted to paint the world's famous mountains and rivers as a general zhi, but because of her elderly mother, he could not bear to make the trip. But his mother said to him to explore, the wonder of the ancestors, and to you that is the widow to success. She actively encouraged Xu Xiake to travel with confidence.
On 1608, at the age of 22, with the encouragement of his mother, Xu Xiake started of hihs journey. From then until his death at the age of fifty-four, most of the time was spent on travel expeditions.
